Evaluation of long-term mineral trapping at the Ketzin pilot site for CO2 storage: An integrative approach using geochemical modelling and reservoir simulation

2013
International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control
Elisa Klein, Marco De Lucia, Thomas Kempka, Michael Kühn
Highlights
• Batch geochemical modelling is performed to evaluate long-term mineral trapping at the Ketzin pilot site for CO2 storage.
• Coupling of geochemical to reservoir simulation results allows quantification of mineral trapping at reservoir scale.
• Geochemical simulations consider variability of porosity and water/gas saturation.
• Mineral trapping is consecutively taken over by siderite, dolomite and magnesite.
• Around 25% of the total injected CO2 is mineralized after 10,000 years.
