OGS - Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale
OGS is a public research institute, with roots going back to the second half of 1700, financed by the
Ministry of University and Research. Its mission is to promote, co-ordinate and perform, also in
collaboration with other (inter)national institutions, studies and research on the Earth and its resources.
The OGS activities are carried out by the five departments of Geophysics of the Lithosphere, Oceanography, Seismology, Biological Oceanography and Development of Marine Technologies, with a staff of 242 employees. OGS research on CCS is focused on: geological studies, seismic properties analysis, subsurface imaging and geophysical monitoring, remote sensing, on-shore and off-shore monitoring of gas fluxes, impact assessment on marine ecosystem, and development of advanced monitoring techniques. EU projects in which OGS has been and is currently contributing include CO2-NET2, CASTOR, INCA-CO2, CO2GeoNet, GeoCapacity, CO2ReMoVe, MOVE-CBM and RISCS.
The role of OGS in CO2CARE is to bring its wide and deep experience in geophysical modelling and physical properties studies to guarantee the efficiency of monitoring in the abandonment phases; participate in the analysis and integration of available data; and contribute to the dissemination of the project results.
